[Gllug] Nasty characters creeping in on xorg desktop

Now solved.  The culprit seems to have been the:

         Option          "XkbVariant"    "intl"

bit, which Etch put in by default.  This is different from the behaviour
in Sarge so I took it out and all now works perfectly.  My apostrophe's
are now beautifully formed - if mis-placed.
