That's exactly what I did for my SATA-based laptop. Works a treat. There
are ISOs available with the etch installer on. 

http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/daily-builds/daily/arch-latest/i386/iso-cd/debian-testing-i386-netinst.iso

Is probably what the OP needs.
