I wasn't going to contribute to this nonsense, on the basis that by doing
so I'm just compounding the damage, but when people start agreeing that
distributing bullshit, and wasting all our time, both by making us do the
research that he should have done _before_ sending the message but also by
creating this stupid thread I have to say that you're both wrong.

People have been sending this sort of nonsense around since the good times
virus hoax (1994) and you still see that one doing the rounds on occasion.
By forwarding these things you're just adding to the problem, and causing
a few minutes of waste effort to anyone that bothers to check their facts.
Given that the people that bother to check their facts are probably taking
time off from doing something more useful, and there is the possibility
that this warning will continue to do the rounds for a decade or more
(judging by the history of these things) you might decide that the act of
forwarding it makes you responsible for wasting a lifetime or two of effort
that could be spent doing something worthwhile instead.

No, the fact that this was inflated to the point of silliness should have
been a big red flashing light telling you that it was a hoax.
