[Gllug] Somewhat OT: the embedded device in your pocket

I have been exploring writing code for J2ME (ie java for mobile phones),
and as that seems to be the most ubiquitous IT equipment going, I am
surprised at the low volume of interest in this platform -

* Most (though not all) books were published three - four years ago (eg
the O'reilly Nutshell book seems to be out of print and Amazon are having
a hell of time sourcing it for me)

* There seems to be no obvious english language general issue developer
mailing list

* Even google searches show rather limited interest

Is this because this is a market where nobody can see any money? Is it
because most phone users are not really interested in treating the device
as what it really is, a piece of embedded computing hardware, or ist it
that the tools/languages are no good and all the real work is at bare
metal or underlying OS level?
