Well, I think it would matter to Microsoft! ;)

It makes little difference to me these days - I use Windows neither at
home nor at work and only play games on consoles.

Of course, Macs are beginning, albeit slowly, to emerge from their niche
and occupy another one too - quite a few non-techie folk I know do
neither design nor publishing but use Macs because they find them easier
to understand and use than Windows PCs. Now if Linux could draw those
users too... I suppose that's what Gnome is aiming for, but sadly Linux
already has a reputation for being a hacker's OS that's very complicated
to use - it'll be difficult to shift that. In fact, it'll probably be a
case of doing it one person at a time by demonstrating Linux's ease of
use! :-S
