[Gllug] Extending LVM volumes

Hi,
I'm hoping someone on the list with LVM experience can answer this one
for me.... I've got a volume group on a machine. The physical volume was
created on the whole disk device, not on a partition, so /dev/sdc is a
PV, on which I have vg1, which contains a single LV.
Now if I want to extend this, I could of course add another disk, create
a PV on it, then use vgextend. However, when I add disks to this
machine, the result is that /dev/sdc will get bigger, as this itself is
a virtual device presented to the OS layer by a harware RAID controller.
I can't see any "pvextend" command, so if I double the size of /dev/sdc
one day, how do I extend the volume? It's a new machine, so I'll likely
do some testing tomorrow, but if anyone can fill me in in the meantime,
it's be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike
