[Gllug] data protection & spamming

What laws are there in the UK, dealing with spamming?

More specifically, what can I do against 2 companies who either handed out
my address to spammers; or did not protect my data well enough to prevent
it from getting into a spammer's hands? (Two relatively well-known
companies - one dealing with financial information; one a broker).

Since about 8 weeks I've been receiving spam (fittingly mostly - stock
pump&dump scams), which weren't sent BY them, but it's clear that it's
their fault I even get these spams. I've asked both for explanations on
how this came to be, but am yet to receive a good response from them (one
better than "we're investigating the issue").

Apart from, obviously, stopping to deal with those companies - is there
anything else I can / should do?
