[Gllug] Pop-up list of words in VIM

Using vim this morning in a slightly distracted way I went to paste in a 
bit of text which I'd just cut from another point in my document and 
instead of getting what I expected I got a sort of purple pop-up menu of 
words.  At the next key press it disappeared, and I've been unable to 
reproduce it.

Anyone know what odd key sequence I might have pressed and what this 
pop-up list is?
