Except that, as creators of a fair amount of software, they presumably
have plenty of patents themselves, have done due diligence on their own
software and have various cross-licencing deals in place and may well
have established prior art for a lot of what they do.

What's your theory as to why they don't want Ogg support in the HTML
standard then? Are they evil companies who want to torpedo open source?
That would be pretty strange since they both base products (in Apple's
case, quite substantially) on FOSS of various kinds.
