Expensive? What is the price of USB-to-ethernet
adapters in the UK?
I bought one in India for INR 350 ~ 4 pounds?
You can use the usbnet module along with the
USB-to-ethernet driver present in the Linux kernel.

What's the fifth? USB uses four: D+, D-, VBUS, and
GND.
