If you create a user.js in ~/.mozilla-thunderbird/<profile>/, and set:-

user_pref("mail.check_all_imap_folders_for_new", true);

it might help. That's what I use on a Cyrus server, and it works (though
TB doesn't always refresh as often as it should).
