Common cause for this is MTU problems - either at your end or at the 
server.

Try setting your MTU to a low figure such as 1300 and see if that fixed 
it.

We had this last year when our upstream transit provider had a ring update 
and jumbo frames was disabled hence ethernet stopped working properly.
