Hm, actually, there's another reason: LILO can boot from LVM, but its
code to do so is rather bad: you need to make symlinks from
/dev/mapper/* to /dev/dm-{number} for your boot device before it will
work, and it can't boot from RAID+LVM at all. (Obviously, for /boot,
RAID matters more than LVMing does!)
