Apart from the fact that if the UK were to grow its own bio-diesel,
leaving petrol apart, then 85% of the land area of the UK would have to 
be given over to its production. That's the top of Ben Nevis, the moors,
all agricultural fields, forests etc. Leaving us the areas of the cities 
and towns to live in. Whilst, as I say, still using petrol for most of 
the cars.

And to make it clear, I drive a diesel car.

My point being we use a LOT of diesel and petrol, and the current mode 
for promoting bio-fuels is just a bandaid.
