surely, in such a scenario you would use a disk enclosure on an 
appropriate backplane ( if nothing else, on a hotplug backlpane to 
ensure the machine does not need to be shutdown, opened, fingered etc ). 
You will find such caddies are a lot more resilient to moving around 
than the conventional sata sockets are.
