That will almost certainly involve a glibc upgrade, which will require a 
significant chunk of the rest of your system to be upgraded, and then 
you're running unstable.

Bad idea.

Testing (etch) is in a freeze right now, if you want a functional 
desktop with a good bet for stability, just upgrade to that.


There might be a backport for debian stable, but, really, for a desktop, 
Etch will do you just fine.
