Hi there, have any GLLUG members come across the monstrous rip-off being
exacted by the "keepers of others' data" - the family connection website
and those lovely so-truly-blairite-they-smell-of-it people selling off
our data?
Go seek your family history on the web. Discover, as did I, that you
will need a "voucher" to access our own national records. Read that the
message from the government's lackeys is that the vouchers (@ £5 a nob)
are available at Post Offices.
Nope. An afternoon queueing in and traipsing between South London Post
Offices affirmed that that was yet another privatising lie.
Card to the ready, we begrudgingly bought a fiver's worth of "voucher"
on the website - the Blairite caption talking of "500 credits" and
"small charges" (stop laughing, you lot!).
Five hours later we two pensioners retired from the field, angry,
tired, a tenner lighter and with not much more data than when we
started.
So there goes yet another middle-class shutdown of the fruit of
Victorian labours.
I don't care about our history now. I can't afford to any more because
they privatised it.
Will no-one stop these evil, grasping, tiny-minded children of
Thatcher?
