Absolutely. It's only something they'd do as a final resort if they were
already losing significant desktop market share.

I suspect people might pay for the power and stability of Linux with
Microsoft's clicky admin stuff on the top (which they could clearly do,
Active Directory is really just a nice interface to LDAP and kerberos
with some additional embrace&extend magic)

If anything I'd expect to see it go the other way - they could easily
provide Linuxy userspaces. This seems to be irrelevant in the inevitable
future of virtualisation though.
