[Gllug] freeing a "busy" tape drive without rebooting

I had a similar problem with a dodgytape in a SCSI DAT drive.

The 'tape reset' command wouldn't do anything either.

In the end we rebooted the machine.

I did ponder the possibility of simply pulling the power connector out of the
back of the drive and then pushing it back in again (after unmount all the
filesystems first !), but in the end it was to much hassle.

It seems that when drives get their knickers in a twist like this only a 'master
reset' signal or whatever is generated when the system reboots will solve the
problem. As for powering down and up this may or may not work - certainly
scsi devices seem to have to be powered up when the system is booted, else the
scsi adapter wont 'see' them.
