What sort of batteries are you using? You want to be using the
rechargeable digital camera type.
Ni-MH with a high a mAh as you can find (but make sure your charger can
charge it fully). You should be able to get a set of batteries and a
charger together for about £20 or so and it'll save you lots. My current
camera batteries are 2300mAh AA and last for ages. My charger redoes
then in 4 hours, but you can get quicker ones that that.

I think you'll get much better performance from these than from alkaline
batteries.
