Sorry for the short post, I got interrupted in the middle of it and just
closed and sent it. The box is running in console mode only (no X) and
when I do a reboot or shutdown, the system locks with the following
error messages (typed from the screen as I cannot find a log file that
lists them).

<last 8 lines of messages prior to system freeze>
[<c02d26da>] sys_poll+0x240/0x24d
[<c02d26da>] __pollwait+0x0/0x95
[<c0105c64>] co_notify_resume+0x28/0x38
[<c02d26da>] work_notifysig+0x13/0x15
Code: Bad EIP value.
<0>Fatal exception: panic in 5 seconds

[ OK ]
Kernel pnic - not syncing: Fatal exception

<end of messages and system freezes>

This is basically an asterisk server that I am running and the crashes
are both random (i.e. the machine is sitting there doing nothing) as
well as reproducable (i.e. always when doing a shutdown or reboot).
This is a repurposed box and I have not yet actually setup more than a
couple of VOIP phones on it. No external connections in to the box and
no peers that will be putting any load on it at this time.

What I am looking for is standard diagnostics tools and locations of log
files etc where I might find these crash messages so that I can more
easily search for solutions.
