[Gllug] Using a GPS receiver (Navman B10) with Linux

Just for completeness, and in case someone googles this thread in the
future and wants to know the answer...

I eventually solved this.  The problem was that the GPS unit (Navman
B10) had somehow got into binary mode and gpsd didn't understand the
data which it was sending.

It appears that it sends either binary data (SiRF Star III) or text data
(NMEA) and gpsd doesn't understand the former.  To reset it, either take
the battery out for an hour or so, or use gpsctl to change the mode.
There's also a utility called sirfmon which can tell you what it's doing.
