[Gllug] What's messing with my BIOS? (and a GRUB question)

I've hit an odd problem with a PC which I'm trying to set up to dual boot.

It originally had an 80G SATA drive on which XP is installed, plus a CD
drive on the IDE0 controller. In order to avoid disturbing the XP
installation at all I put a second IDE hard drive in on the IDE1
controller and installed Etch to that. I put GRUB on the MBR of the new
IDE drive and told the BIOS to boot from that one first.

All seemed hunky at first, but the BIOS settings keep changing
un-predictably. Suddenly it will only boot into XP again (by-passing the
GRUB menu) and when I go into the BIOS the drives have been re-ordered to
put the SATA one first again. Anyone any idea what might cause that? My
first suspicion was Windows messing with things, but last night it
happened and I hadn't even booted into Windows.

As a work-around it occurs to me to install GRUB on the SATA disc as well.
Is this is as simple as typing:

grub-install /dev/sda

?

TIA,
John
