I'm sorry: it's changed since some time last year, when a colleague of mine
specifically could not use her Oyster on a national rail route that she
wanted to use regularly. The TFL documentation I looked at only mentioned
London Overground, tube, bus and tram, but I now see that
guide-to-fares-and-tickets-08-01-02.pdf does say that you can now use them on
National Rail.
Nevertheless a paper ticket prevents their tracking you for other purposes.
