Can you recommend any good web hosting company and packages ?

Diana,

there are hundreds of offers, mainly indistinguishable. I assume that
you want Linux hosting offering Apache php etc.

You need to decide if you need to install anything at all on the hosting
service, or are prepared to accept restrictions (and get a lower cost).

All that said:

1. 1 and 1 are cheap and OK (£5 pcm) but very basic.

2. We use Dreamhost for many sites ($6 pcm). They are US based but this
has never been a problem for us. Lots of pre-built installations
(Joomla!, Wordpress blogging, etc, etc) and runs on Debian.

3. If you need extensive control over the server, then Bytemark virutal
hosts are good value (£15 pcm) - any distro within reason, we run Debian
there.

No doubt you will get many other useful suggestions.

company that I need to know?

Does your charity have a Domain name? If not then I'd recommend you
register the name as a separate issue from arranging hosting. This
simplifies issues when you want to move hosts etc. Ensure that someone
competent and responsible at the charity is registered as the domain
owner ('registrant'). The technical and administrative contact can be
the ISP.

You can submit the site to Google at:

http://www.google.com/addurl/

This gets it indexed fairly quickly. However, promotion via ads,
handouts, and other publicity is the best and cheapest way to actually
get people to visit.

All this In My Humble Opinion of course, others may have different views.

Good luck.
