Are you a Linux/Unix expert that with an interest in fluid mechanics?

If so, we are looking for researchers to undertake a numerical study of
extreme free-surface flows including wave breaking, wave-structure and
wave-vessel interactions commencing in early April 2008 or as soon as
possible thereafter. The emphasis of the work is numerical modelling,
combining Boundary Element Methods (BEM) and Smooth Particle
Hydrodynamics (SPH). Both methods are computationally expensive,
therefore the use of parallel computing is key to the success of the
research. The work will be undertaken in the Dept. of Civil and
Environmental Engineering at Imperial College London /(Imperial College
is ranked the fifth best university in the world (Times Higher QS World
University Rankings 2007))/

Essentials:

   * First Class or 2:1 in engineering, maths, computing or related degree.
   * Experience in numerical modelling and fluid mechanics.
   * You can program in either Fortran or C/C++.
   * Good knowledge of Linux.

Desirable experience:

   * Programming using MPI and OpenMP.
   * Using a parallel computing environment to distribute computational
     workload.
   * Sysadmin, especially in cluster computing environments.
   * Open source development or contribution.

_Salary in the range_
Research Assistant: £24,570 to £27,320 per annum
Research Associate: £24,570 to £35,800 per annum

If this is you then more information and application forms can be found
here. <http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/employment/research/en20080041>
