[Gllug] command(number)

Most likely a stupid question, but I've seen quite a few people refer to commands as <command>(<number>), like mount(8) or su(1)

What does it mean?

My first thought is that it refers to the amount of arguments the 'function' can take, but I can't find anywhere to confirm this. Since it only ever seems to come up when someone's pointing at documentation, it'd probably be handy to *know* what it means.
