I've been using Areca cards for about 3 years now, and can honestly say
that I like them just as much as the 3ware ones, if not more - specially
on setups with > 8 drives.
With 3ware, make sure you get something that is >= 9550. The older
models are not all that great.
If you are looking for cheaper alternatives, there are a whole bunch of
SIL based h/w raid0/1 capable cards that work as well. I'd be happy to
dig up some pciid's if someone is interested.
