It does work fine without (swap|page file|virtual memory) as long as you have ~4gb RAM or so. 

Just be glad you don't have to deal with Vista on a regular basis... It makes Windows ME look good!

Sounds like nothings changed since NT4 days then (I retired from IT just in time to miss Windows 2000, which by repute I've heard is the best of 'em - or least worst).
