The use of "bottom post" in these discussions always seems to further
confuse matters if you ask me. It's possibly more accurate to refer to
it as in-line posting as the text you add should be placed where it has
greatest relevance. Replying one-by-one to a number of points all at the
bottom of the original message is sometimes as unhelpful as doing it at
the top.

Yes, IME the main arguments for top/bottom posting can be summed up as
convenience against courtesy. It's more convenient to hit reply but more
courteous to post in-line and trim messages you are replying to. I don't
mean to imply that people who top post are being deliberately rude just
that in-line posting and trimming takes more time.

Of course some devices/software (like Outlook, Blackberrys or 'phones)
make it difficult to properly trim & post in-line and that doesn't help
matters.
