[Gllug] MS-SharePoint alternatives

I'm writing a "White Paper" for a client currently looking at Microsoft's
"SharePoint" system.
This client has very specific requirements especially toward security and
lock-down, and whilst they have £m's to spend, they wish to examine
dependable and equally dynamic (if not more) collaborative working platforms
that could feasible reduce Total Cost of Ownership as well as pass some of
the licensing/support savings onto organisational improvements.
Are there any open source or mixed platform variants that I could be
directed towards?
Without wishing to be blunt, I don't wish to be tarnished with "FLOSS is
naturally collaborative..." comments (as I have witnessed in the past) as I
really don't have the time to wade through such responses.
I would, however, greatly appreciate considered replies that highlight
specific applications (e.g. "RedHat OS9.x combined with Postgresql 5.1.1,
OO.org and OfBiz would provide a suitable alternative...") as this will help
me construct an argument for non-MS applications...
I will gladly check out the relevant software, though any links would be
welcome.
