I am most definitely a hobbyist however, I did manage to catch and quite
enjoy the HA talk. One of the benefits of the talks that I see is that I
am able to be exposed to those technologies that I might not have or had
time for. This gives a great chance for extending ones base of
knowledge.

Home projects would be a good area to help attract interest. Mythtv,
music streaming, home security, digital picture frames and whatever else
might be out there.

Ooohh, A Raprep day would be amazing! :) But hopefully it would wait
until I can afford one.
