I've never used it.  I've used vm for a bit, but didn't get on with
it.  Every time I consider using it, and google for a simple
step-by-step guide. I get scared off by how complicated it seems to be
to even get started.

Is there a really simple 1-2-3 guide out there?  Or could perhaps some
of the seasoned users here explain what's involved?
