I had a look at the Thecus but thought it fell squarely between two
stools - either can't be expanded enough or too expensive.  Their two
drive models are in the right price range, but two drives isn't
sufficient to do any interesting RAID or have any useful amount of
storage.  If you move up to their 3 and 4 drive models it suddenly
becomes a lot more expensive (yet it's just extra air in the case
really).
