My Edimax PCMCIA card was only just short of plug and play on my Debian 
Thinkpad. I think I needed a single package and it started working.

I got it from the Linux emporium, and they sent me a 
10%-off-your-next-purchase voucher with it, too. I'm fairly sure it was 
<£20.
