2009/8/7 gvim <gvimrc at googlemail.com>:
> I have a Tyan S2881GNR server board with 2 PCI-X slots and an nVidia FX 5200 graphics card running nicely with non-free drivers within Ubuntu 9.04. When I added an old Creative SBLive 5.1 to the vacant PCI-X slot sound was audible within Ubuntu but the system became unstable. Stable again once removed. Tried switching the PCI-X slots but Ubuntu remained unstable with the sound card in any slot. Does this once-Linux-compatible sound card now have issues with Ubuntu 9.04 or is it likely a hardware issue? Can't be IRQs.

Try posting the output of "dmesg" and any syslog/messages log files so
one can look and see what exactly you mean by "unstable"

Kind Regards
