That's interesting. Earlier I said something about using flash as an
additional "tier" in the disk hierarchy.
I administer an HSM setup (heirarchical storage management). Slotting
in an additional tier of disk, whether rotating or solid state, would
not be so difficult in such a situation - all you would have to do is
set an appropriate ageing policy.
(In an HSM, files which have not been accessed for NNN time are pushed
off onto the slower tiers in the hierarchy).
Having a facility like that for smaller servers and desktops though is
interesting - as you say though I doubt that on a server with SATA
disks there will be much to choose from in solid state or rotating
disk.
