No, it's not crap at all. It may surprise you to find out that I've
been writing perl intermittently for 2 decades now. Indeed, in many
ways, I rather like it. I just detest having to work on apps written
in perl when anyone other than me has been involved. I suspect that
TMTOWTDI is at least partly responsible for this.

Yep, that's about it. I know full well that perl needn't be unreadable
or unmaintainable. But I also know that in the real world, it invariably
is, which IMHO makes it unsuitable as a choice of language to implement,
well, most things other than personal projects. Just MHO.
