Markets don't work like that.

The amount of professions with highly skilled workers that died are a
dime a dozen. I am not saying our professions will die any time soon,
but ignoring that there are people in other countries willing to work
for far less in much harsher conditions is perilous, to say the least.

Our salaries will be affected by that, you should get as much as you
can by any means, but like in any commercial transaction, if you are
asking  too much for too long then you have to adjust your
expectations.
