[Gllug] Strange data from mrtg

Over the weekend I installed mrtg to monitor the data going through my
Vigor 2820.

The first day that I have full data for is Sunday, when we received
about 350 MB of data. That sounds about right for four people sharing an
internet connection.

Then something happened at about 2:30 Monday morning. From that time
onwards I have a constant download rate of just over 30 KB/s. Over a day
that is about 2.5 GB of data - and over a thirty day period, that will
take me way over Demon's fair use limits.

We all connect to the router using wireless. The wireless network is
locked down to only accept known MACs.

Overnight, I'm assured that my desktop was the only machine that was
still turned on. There's nothing running on that machine which is
pulling down 30 KB/s of data (I've checked that with iftop).

Overnight last night I turned off the external WAN connection on the
router. But this morning mrtg still claimed to be seeing the same rate
all night. So something is not right.

Does anyone have any idea what might be going on here? Is it as simple
as mrtg misreporting stuff?

Happy to supply any other details that might be useful.

Cheers,

Dave...
