When you generate GPG keys, doesn't it ask you to move the cursor
round the little box to make it easier for it to generate random
characters?  That's what it did to me anyway, with those little
symbols and it worked.  Those symbols do show progress and show that
it's making your key, though as it says it needs enough random bytes
to generate a key which is why they might go slow sometimes.

I'm not sure if that really answered your question (I don't think it
did), but I tried.  :)
