No. Devolo branded devices at least can be administered using dLan under 
Linux, and I suspect (But haven't tested) that compliant devices can be 
administered under Windows with each others' software -- and so that 
could be true with dLan.

I've used Netgears and Devolos with success.

What would be more useful than a brand would be software that'd display 
line quality -- you're more likely to come across a ropey kettle 
bringing the network down every time you want a cup of tea. Fair trade 
off, some might say! In the meantime I use flood ping to detect line 
issues -- they show up as fullstops per dropped ping.
