It varies a lot... I've blacklisted a bunch of agencies that keeps
spamming me with everything and anything they have, and that haven't
stopped despite insults, threats etc..
But I also get a lot of people contacting me on the basis of my LinkedIn
profile who has clearly gone to it after having looked at my CV (there
are details in the CV's I've used that are not on LinkedIn, so I can
often tell who have "just" found me on LinkedIn). This category tends to
be far better targeted. I still get an occasional message from people
who know I'm not interested in the role but hope I might know someone,
but they're generally in the form of an apologetic and personal message
and they seem to have looked at my network to see if I'm likely to know
the right type of people. Some of them have even clearly read my blog.
I think it largely depends on the level of the position and/or how long
they've tried in vain to find someone. Most of the recruiter spam I get
seems to be for low level positions that the bottom feeders amongst the
agencies can probably fill pretty quickly and cheaply that way, and so
they never bother moving on to actually do any decent work for it.
