I recently had just such a demand from "the powers that be" at work.  I
demonstrated that it might just be possible, but the expense would be
spectacular!  I also explained that the cost of reducing apparent
availability just slightly would result in reasonable costs.  We now
have properly scheduled down times for the machines!

These "powers that be" are now demanding that (roughly) 2400 CCTV
cameras are continuously, digitally recorded, with a data retention time
of 28 days...
