Yes. That's the *point* of DBAN: to secure-erase disks using various  
patterns. OTTOMH I'm unsure if it reads the data back, but it's  
probably one of the many options.

I used DBAN to batch-erase my stack of old disks ready for giving  
away, and to weed out the unfit. Worked a treat.
