A switch's performance is measured in: pps  or Packets per second.
So, it might have GigE ports, but if the pps value is too small, it
will not perform as expected.

For example, for netgear
12 port switch: GSM7312: 24 Gbps; 35.7 Mpps
24 port switch: GSM7324: 48 Gbps; 71.4 Mpps

Mpps is Mega Packets per second.
So, work out the pps figure you need and then choose a switch.
