UNetBootIn is the best way of making a bootable flash drive IMHO. If you
can't get it installed on the system you are running try and borrow a
machine with a CD drive, burn a copy of Ubuntu and boot to it then
simply install from the repos if it's not already there (I think it
might already be installed in 9.04).
It's a great little program. It contains hotlinks to isos for almost all
significant distros and the ability to use any local isos you have to hand.
