For real time translation needs, I do have one recommendation...

Google offers their translation services via XMPP, if you use google talk or another
jabber client you will be able to instantly see translations by inviting the translator
as a third member of the chat.

The addresses en2zh at bot.talk.google.com and zh2en at bot.talk.google.com should suffice.
