[Gllug] Samba & MS Windows 7

Hi,
I support a system with Samba on Linux and mainly MS Windows desktop clients.
They want a new machine - MS Windows 7 seems to be the way forwards. The current
desktops are MS Window XP Pro; the Pro version is needed to ask them to login
using samba (user info in LDAP).
I guess that I am going to need to specify the Pro version.
Has anyone any success/problem stories that I should know about.
I note:

I am running CentOS 5.4, so I will need to port samba 3.4 - not too hard.
Oh: before you ask - Linux desktop is not really an option; although there are a couple.
Main reason is that they need to use MS Word - lots of document exchange with versioning
(apparently OoO doesn't do it well) + specialised s/ware.
TIA
