In fact, I correct myself. (rude message to self - think before posting).
run 'zypper' at the command line to do your SuSE package management.



zypper search gnome
will ist available gnome packages

zypper install gnome-desktop
should pull in the gnome packages needed for a typical desktop
(caveat - I'm not sure exactly which gnome package you need to pull in
using zypper.
Desktop sounds about right).
